Transfusion #16

Mom needed a transfusion today; she got 2 units of packed red blood cells & 1 bag of platelets. Nurse Lisa was the primary nurse today, with Nurses Bonnie & Staci assisting. Curtis brought lunch from Chun Wah Kam Noodle Factory. He wasn't able to stay long since he had to be present for a briefing after lunch with the admiral at Pearl Harbor. (His boss's boss was doing the talking but he and his boss needed to be there to provide details if requested.)
Clockwise from top left: green beans with tofu, chow mein, lup cheong fried rice, & pineapple chicken.

Since Mom got 2 units PRBCs and 1 bag of platelets, we were at the ATC for almost 9 hours. Which means we were in rush hour traffic both ways. On the way back we ran in to traffic so bad it took us twice as long to get back home. But it did give me time to find out that Mom has been thinking that I take her to get transfusions whenever I feel like it. She now understands that her doctor calls me after reviewing the results of her weekly blood draw & tells me to bring her in for the transfusion when her numbers are too low. I will probably have this same discussion several more times before it really sticks.
Eastbound Interstate H-1 in Kalihi, Puowaina (aka Punchbowl) to the left. FYI Honolulu always makes it on the US list of cities with bad traffic.

We also passed a great view of Leahi from the freeway just before our exit.

The terrible towel that Suzanne sent arrived this morning when we were at the hospital for Mom's transfusion. Since it required a signature the postal carrier did not drop it off, I'll have to pick it up tomorrow. This is the replacement towel for the one she sent at Christmas time, that we never got. The USPS says it was delivered but we never found it.
