Busy Day

We made 3 appointments today to talk to Mom's attorney and 2 of her financial advisors. We started with breakfast at Eggs 'n Things Ala Moana.

While we were there we saw a photo on the wall; the guy in the photo looked like Curt. I definitely had to take a photo of that!

I had the Minced Meat & Scrambled Eggs. I had mine with Portuguese sausage and home fries. The pancakes are from Curtis' meal. They serve salsa with their eggs and the choices of syrups are guava, coconut, & maple. I would definitely order this one again! We ended up getting our breakfast for free. Kim, a guy that Curt knew through work, was a couple tables away; the server came over and told us he had paid for our breakfasts. Kim came over to say "Hi!" and check in with how Curtis was doing with retirement.

After breakfast we went to see Rowen, Mom's estate attorney. Rowen helped Mom & Dad draw up their Trust documents about 25 years ago. Then about 3 or 4 years ago he helped them review the documents and update them as needed; we found out they should have been reviewed every 9 or 10 years. Or whenever there is a major life change. Fortunately, for Mom & Dad, there were no major changes needed. We had a good meeting with Rowen, he helped clear up some questions we had; especially about a new Tax Identification Number (TIN) for Mom's trusts. The rule of thumb we took away from that was 1) if the account was going to be closed, no TIN is needed; and 2) if the account is going to continue, then a TIN is needed for the future tax returns.

About 30 minutes later we went to see Vaughn, Mom's Ameriprise financial advisor. I had called Vaughn on Tuesday to set up the appointment today; all the paperwork was ready for us when we arrived. Vaughn went over the different papers and showed us where Dad should sign. And also where Curtis should sign if Dad decides to renounce being the Trustee for the trusts. We think Dad might do that, he already tells us to do what we think is best.

We were still full from breakfast so we decided to skip a full lunch which meant we had a bunch of time before our next appointment. Curtis went to McDonalds for a soda from the one closest to our next appointment. As we were coming up to the menu board we saw a sign advertising a guava pie, it's like an apple pie but with guava filling. They also had mango pineapple smoothies! I think both of these may be unique to Hawaii McDonalds; I haven't seen them in other places but then I don't go to McDonalds. I liked the smoothie but the guava pie did not have much of a guava flavor.

Here's something else I haven't seen at McDonalds (or anywhere else) in Washington, landscaping using gardenia hedges!

The last appointment was with Adelia, Mom's AssetMark financial advisor. Adelia also had the paperwork ready for us. Adelia also marked the signature lines for us. Once Dad has finished signing, I return everything to Adelia. Then we wait for the next steps.

Happy Birthday to Mary Kay!
