Visiting With Cousin Beryl

Today we went to Hilo to visit Aunty Doris & Uncle Tom and their middle daughter Beryl. I haven't seen Beryl since she was in high school, we figure its been over 40 years. We had a great visit catching up on what's happened. Beryl & Kai also talked about recent movies. We had lunch at Sunlight Cafe. Aunty Doris had the Deluxe Teishoku with unagi and eggplant, Uncle Tom had the Deluxe Teishoku with butterfish and tonkatsu, Beryl had the Spicy Ramen with Fried Mandoo, Kai had the Spicy Katsu Burger, and I had the Mix Plate which came with tonkatsu, teriyaki, and mahimahi.

We learned that Kellie, the youngest daughter, will be here next week. And Jeri, the oldest daughter, is possibly coming also. We shall see what happens. Perhaps Curtis or I (or both of us on different days) will come for a visit while all 3 are in Hilo.

On the way to Hilo we stopped at Tex Drive In in Honokaa for malasadas; Kai ate his in the car as soon as we got it. Uncle Tom had a craving for malasadas earlier in the day so he was happy to see us walk in with them! We also stopped at Donna's Cookies in Paauilo. Don't rush in the front door too fast, you'll run in to the cookie rack. The retail area is very tiny, about 6' x 6'; the rest is the bakery area.

This morning I was waiting for the technician from Tesla to come to check out the new garage roof for the installation of a solar photovoltaic system. He was supposed to be here between 7 and 9 am; he never showed and didn't call either or leave a message on the note I left for him. So I called Tesla when we got back. Turns out he had car trouble but didn't bother to call people and tell them aehat was going on. I'm rescheduled for next Monday at the same time. On the brighter side, I got to sort of see the sunrise.
That orange spot just right of center is the sun; I can't wait for Chris to change this out to the clear stuff.

When we got back we had dinner with Jessie. The vinha d'alhos was excellent! She also cooked some potatoes in the vinha d'alhos  sauce, they were also very good.
L to R: potatoes cooked in vinha d'alhos marinade, vinha d'alhos, & vegetables.

Happy Birthday to Jennifer & Sean! Happy 66th Anniversary to Lem & Doreen!
