Tropical Depression Five-E

Another storm system is forming in the Eastern Pacific region, Tropical Depression Five-E. Its name means it is the 5th storm of the season to form in the Eastern Pacific region. When you see it on the map for the Central Pacific, it doesn't look like much. But when you overlay the potential path you can see it approaching the Central Pacific at hurricane force. It is moving westward at about 15 mph & is expected to enter the Central Pacific by the weekend or early next week. Currently maximum sustained winds are at 35 mph, so just below tropical storm level. Stay tuned!

Tropical Storm Calvin

At the Mayor's Town Hall last night, the County's Civil Defense director advised people that a tropical storm was brewing in the Eastern Pacific & was predicted to enter the Central Pacific region where we are located. The predicted storm track also showed it approaching to the south of Hawai'i Island. However, if it is still at hurricane strength winds extend out far enough that it might be a problem. I will be keeping an eye on it. It is expected to enter the Central Pacific region on Sunday.
