Eureka! I Figured It Out!

So I have been posting about the hurricanes that head in our direction for several years now. I think I have finally figured out how to create a link to the graphic from the Central Pacific Hurricane Center that does not update every time the post is opened. (Which results in nothing if you open it long enough past the time the hurricane moved through the area. Graphics I used on the earliest posts are static; I think the programming changed after those.) I found the link to the archives for each storm, including the graphics. I have gone back for the last couple of days and inserted the archived graphics for Erick & Flossie; I might get around to going back to previous posts and inserting the archived graphics. Maybe. In the meanwhile here's tonight's info on Hurricane Erick.

My morning walk was fairly normal until I was near the upper part of Lurline when I saw an ʻIwa (Great Frigatebird, Fregata minor). When it first came in to view it was just a silhouette but they have a distinctive silhouette so I knew immediately what it was; once there was some light on it I could see that it was a female. Calvin said he saw ʻIwa twice when he was here; I have seen them before. This is the first time I have seen one while doing a checklist.
Nineteen minutes before sunrise on Waiʻalae.
Nine minutes before sunrise on Maunalani.
Nine minutes after sunrise on Sierra.

During my walk I saw LaVie in the distance coming up Sierra; she was between bus stops but the driver stopped & picked her up. I later saw Calvin the Recycler on his way down. During my cool down stretches Lorraine came walking by; she had another handful of double pikake blossoms! I also saw Ona & Rio walking by. There were intermittent drizzles at the start of my cool down stretches, but towards the end it became a downpour!

And during the walk and cool downs it was a little gusty; this is just our normal weather, we shouldn't start feeling any impacts from Hurricane Erick until tomorrow evening, if anything. Here's a graphic showing the probability of an area having tropical storm force winds (at least 39 mph).

Dad was eating breakfast in bed when I arrived. I think he spends more time awake looking out the window on the 2nd floor. Although there was a wider view on the 3rd floor, on the 2nd floor things he can look at are much closer. He seems to be more engaged with them since he can see individual trees and shrubs; he tells me which branches I need to cut off!

I finally did another mid-morning walk today; it was excellent! I like the mid-morning walk more than the afternoon walk since it is generally cooler; today was no exception. There was one light drizzle as I was at the upper end of the park; I sheltered under a tree for a minute or so when it slowed down, then stopped. As I continued my walk, the slight dampness of my shirt helped to keep me cooler. Near the top of Lurline Kelly was driving by and stopped to say "Hi!" and check in about Dad; he was on his way to go surfing so we kept it short. As I was doing my cool down stretches there was another rain shower; it was like that for most of the day.

Lunch today was Garlic chicken, Brown rice, Tuscan mix vegetables, Garden salad, Carrot cake, and Thai chicken curry & rice soup. Dad ate all of his 1/2 peanut butter & banana sandwich & 2 desserts. He also ate a madeleine and drank 60 ml orange juice but no water.

I skipped the afternoon walk, today is shower day for Dad and I wanted to make sure that there were no problems with his shower. CNAs JP & Linda had no trouble getting him in to the shower.

On my way home; I stopped in at City Mill with the gift card that Lori gave me for my birthday. I got a bag of potting soil and potted up the pikake starts; I set them out with the misters in the cat run.

While I was potting the starts I heard a House Finch calling. It turns out it was a female eating one of our papayas!

I also checked up on the baby hapuʻu. The other frond died back. But there is a new frond getting ready to grow. Hopefully, it will be like Kellyʻs hapuʻu and start sending out new fronds every couple of weeks as it settles in to its new home.

I saw Twin Cat during my morning walk. I also saw Kuma & Koa's cat friend but didn't take a photo of it.

Hauʻoli lā Hānau to Jim!
