Turkey sandwich with chips and a cookie |
But dessert was different. I have seen these fruity ice cream bars at Don Quijote before but never tried them. It was surprisingly good, really tasted like honeydew melon, but very cold and hard. So cold in fact that you could not lick the bar, your tongue would momentarily stick to it and get very cold. I wonder if they use some of the -65F cold air from the outside at 39,000 feet to cool things?
Here's the route of our 5 1/2 hour flight to Las Vegas.
And here is a larger view showing how remote the Hawaiian Islands are from any other major land mass and why it takes 5 1/2 hours! This is the reason why there are so many endemic species. And also the reason why invasive species can cause such great destruction of local species that have not evolved a defense against the invaders.
Both Mom and Dad are showing signs of slowing down on this trip. It has been more physically tiring for them than it was 2 months ago. And even though we came in much later last time than we did this time, Mom is fast asleep. She was feeling cold for much of the flight and just wanted to crawl in to bed when we got to the room. (Not sure if the cold is a side effect of the leukemia or not.) On the advice of Nurse Rowena I picked up 2 heating pads, one for Mom and one for Dad, and brought them with us. Mom is under the covers with her heating pad. Dad has gone downstairs with Curt to gamble.
I am glad that I got the heating pads. The last time we were here, when Mom was cold our only option was to warm up the whole room. Mom and Dad were feeling fine, the rest of us were overheating
When I changed the bandage on Mom's thumb this evening it was looking a lot better. The Mepilex Ag dressing appears to be doing it's job! I will try to get a photo the next time I change the bandage, which they said to do every other day. The info on the website says it can be kept in place for up to 7 days because of its antimicrobial properties.
Happy Birthday to Thi!
