Mom Meets Her Great Granddaughter

Sarah & Kaia arrived this afternoon after 12 hours in flight. Kaia did very well on the different flights, but by the time we got her in the car at the airport she was at the end of her patience and let us know it! (Sarah thinks it is the heat.) Unfortunately for Kaia, there was an accident which caused a delay, making our trip twice as long as normal. Sarah was unable to fit Kaia's little sleeping bed into her suitcase, the frame was about an inch too big, so she only brought the inside; she put it in the suitcase for Kaia to use. When Mom got up from her nap, she came out to visit her first great grandchild.

David & Randi had arrived a few hours before Sarah & Kaia. They only had a 6 hour flight and did much better than Kaia!

Mom started out the morning doing her weekly blood draw. She also did a chest x-ray this morning to make sure she was not developing pneumonia. (Dr. Pham's nurse, Leo, called just before dinner to say her lungs were clear. Dr. Pham is out of the office today.) Then we went to SuperCuts where Mom got a shampoo from Shaun. Even though she complains that it is a waste of money, she really likes being pampered! She is considering having a shampoo & haircut during her next visit in 2 weeks.

Over the past few days Dad kept saying he could not remember who Sarah & David are, but when he saw them at dinner he knew exactly who they were. He's going through the same thing Mom did back in April of last year when she did not know who Erica & Mitchell were when we talked about them, but immediately recognized them when she saw them.

We had a great dinner: an everything-free pizza for David & Sarah and a Domino's pizza with pepperoni, olives, & mushrooms for the rest of us. Sarah is a vegetarian (plus fish) & David is gluten-intolerant. Sarah is reducing how much gluten she eats because Kaia reacts to whatever gluten component is being released into her breastmilk. This pizza made by Daiya is vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and cholesterol-free. In spite of basically not having anything, Sarah & David said it actually tasted good. (I've tried the Daiya non-dairy cheese substitute & like it.)

We did not hear from Dr. Chan's office today and Mom's CBC test results have not been posted to her file. If they don't show up tomorrow morning I will give them a call. I think Mom may need a transfusion, she is very tired and her muscles are very sore.

Happy Birthday to Mike & Timna!
