I went to Dane's office in Hapuna this morning. We were supposed to start sorting the archeological artifacts found at Kukuipahu this past season. But Tracy called in sick this morning so Dane & I just discussed other projects he would like help on.
One will be to develop a larger version of the Junior Ranger booklet. He showed me examples of the one for Diamond Head State Park & the ʻōhiʻa booklet. Right now the booklet for Lapakahi is just a black & white photocopy on plain old copier paper.
Since Tracy wasn't there I left about 12:30. I stopped by Puʻu Koholā National Historical Park to get more information about the Hoʻokuʻikahi Establishment Day Cultural Festival. Pablo said like last year it will be a very small private ceremony at the heiau but there will be a couple weeks of free classes at the visitor center on different crafts before & after the ceremony day. They are keeping it low key so they do not become a super-spreader event! He gave me the name of the person coordinating the events. I will contact Hana then forward the info to Dane.
I also stopped at Lapakahi to water the lāʻī. As I was leaving, Dane was coming in! I told him what I was able to find out so far about the Hoʻokuʻikahi & I would send him updates.
When I got home I took a short nap before going out to pick a bunch of calamansi. I won't have time to pick any tomorrow morning before I have to leave for Hapuna & I want to drop some off for Maya at the Kohala Food HUB. They collect produce on Tuesdays for nā kūpuna baskets that they give out on Wednesdays.
