I spent most of the day traveling; we got up at 5 this morning so I could be at the airport by 6. The flight was about 6 hours long. Then I spent about an hour helping Arlene finish the shopping at Costco; I had given her the Pacific Coast time instead of the Hawai'i time for my arrival! After that, we headed back to North Kohala. Consequently it was about 2 pm by the time I got back to the house. About 90 minutes later Lorena called; what a nice surprise to greet me when I arrived home! Not ... she was calling to let me know that she had tested positive for COVID-19 today; she started having symptoms yesterday. Which means that when Kai & I got massages from her on Sunday she was in the infectious stage. My at-home self-test came back negative; I will retest on Friday. In the meanwhile, I am isolating myself; an easy task since the population density here is 52 people per square mile!
I called Kai as soon as I was off the phone from talking to Lorena; he will also be self-testing. As soon as I completed my test, I sent an email to people whom we had seen on Sunday after the massage, Monday, & today. Kai & I are Close Contacts of a Case, so we have a higher risk of becoming infected; hence we are isolating to break the transmission chain. The people I emailed are Contacts of a Close Contact; their risk is much less. If either Kai or I test positive within the next couple of days, they will become Close Contacts; their risk will then go up significantly. And so on down the line; which is why isolating & masking is important to break the chain of transmission.

I am really glad I kept my N-95 mask on while I was in the car with Arlene & during our shopping trip; I was doing that since I had been traveling & just came off a plane with a whole bunch of maskless people that I sat with for 6 hours! In the plane I only took my mask off to eat breakfast & sip water; so the people near me should be thankful that I helped keep them safe. None of the people in the row I was in or 3 rows in front of or behind me was wearing a mask. Auē!
I am so sorry. This Covid19 strain is showing up everywhere! Hoping you test negative on Friday. Thank you for all of your help after my surgery. Hoping You and Kai were able to acquire the home. When you have time check your vaca calendar ( in between all you have to do now back at your lovely home!) We are thinking February 22-27th. BTW Polly takes naturalist tours when she travels, most recently in Honduras and Puerto Rico
