We started the day at the Plebotomy Lab, providing a blood sample for the CBC panel for Dr. Chan; this is Mom's normal Monday morning lab. If her counts are low, then she gets a transfusion later in the week. Then she saw Dr. Pham to see how well the twice a day moisturizing is doing to minimize the itching Mom has been having. Dr. Pham was pleased with the improvement that she saw; she asked what we used so I gave her the name of the 3 moisturizing lotions we have been using based on the reviews in 13 Best Drugstore Body Lotions Under $10. I also told her that the #3 Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Firming Butter made Mom smell like a chocolate bar.
Ron had walked up to the house from Waikiki and went to the medical appointments with us. After we were done with the appointments, we gave him a ride to Honolulu Ford so he could get a gas cap for the Bronco, but they did not have one. They said he should go to an auto parts store for the gas cap. We decided instead to go to lunch.
Ron needed the new gas cap because Dad's old gas cap was a locking cap. And we could not find the wad of keys that go with the Bronco; we could only find the individual ignition key that Dad would use when he took the Bronco to the mechanic, so Ron had to destroy the old locking gas cap to get in to the tank. Ron has to get some gas out of the Bronco to lower it to no more than 1/4 tank in order to ship it. Blake had suggested that a transfer hose that is used to get fuel from a gas can to an outboard motor could be used to get the gas out of the Bronco. Blake said we could get a transfer hose at West Marine. Since Honolulu Ford was west of West Marine, I suggested we head back east and have lunch at Liliha Bakery, which is near West Marine. We went to West Marine first, they had sold their last transfer hose yesterday; they suggested we go to Don Quijote to get a siphon hose.
Mom could not remember ever being at Liliha Bakery, but I'm pretty sure she has been there since it is a Honolulu institution. Ron had the 2-piece chicken meal. Mom and I had the saimin. The way they have set up the exit you have to walk through the bakery section on your way to the door. It was difficult to get Mom through there without her wanting something. We have so much dessert at home we really don't need anymore right now; I told her we would go back there later when we were out of desserts.

After lunch we headed to Don Quijote and Ron found that they were also out of transfer hoses and siphons! He decided he would spend the rest of the afternoon washing the Bronco, which is also a requirement for him to ship it. While he was washing the Bronco, Ron also kept the baby monitor nearby and watched Mom for me while I ran some errands. I got the gas cap, a siphon, and a 6-gallon gas can for Ron at Larry's Auto Parts. Then I went to City Mill to make 2 new keys for Ron, but they didn't have a blank for a 1977 Bronco. They sent me to Salz Lock & Safe, they were easily able to make the keys. I also went to check for Momo, no luck there. Overall, I think it was a successful day in getting the Bronco ready to go to its new home.
On Sunday Curt and Lori brought lunch and dessert over when they dropped off the groceries from the Costco run. Later in the evening Mom was looking for dessert and asked me what this was, I wasn't sure. I thought it was interesting that she insisted that it was dessert but did not eat it.
Takoyaki. |
I think Mom really knew that this was takoyaki; definitely not a dessert! I think that's why she didn't eat it, even though she wanted dessert and originally said it was a dessert.
Happy Birthday to Dr. Georgia & David!
