Kai's Last Days of Vacation

Today is Kai's last full day on vacation. Since it's Tuesday, we started out with breakfast with Uncle Curtis. He took us to The Nook; Curtis & I had been there earlier but he wanted to take Kai because of the type of coffee that they serve. Curtis had the Papaya on the Half, Kai had the Gypsy Toast, and I had the Veggie Benedict. The benedict was supposed to be with eggplant, but when the waitress brought it out she said it was not eggplant, she wanted to know if I was okay with Brussels sprouts. Since Brussels sprouts are not really liked by many people you would think she would ask at the very beginning before they begin to prepare it instead of just before she puts it on the table! I like Brussels sprouts so it was okay with me; besides we were on a time crunch so we didn't have time for them to make something else.

Veggie Benedict, with Brussels sprouts. It was okay but would have been better with eggplant.

Later we went to Puowaina, to place flowers at Mom's niche. We went to Le Flowers, where we always go, to get the flowers. The woman that runs the place asked if we were going to the grave, when we said yes she gave us one of the day old lei, it was white ginger with orchids. Kai hung it on Mom's niche.

Later I went to visit Harold, my financial advisor at HG Capital Advisors. I needed to give him a check that the old insurance company sent to me rather than rolling over in to my new insurance company. We also talked about how my investments are doing. Between the end of December and the end of January it went up about 3%. Then between the end of January and yesterday it went down about 4%. But overall, in the 3 months that I have been with him, my account is breaking even. And now the stock market appears to be creeping up again.

Dad's tradition is to take visitors out for dinner the night before they leave. Tonight, however, Dad didn't feel like going out; so I took Kai to Big City Diner. They were in Week #4 for their specials, so I had the Spicy Ahi & Avocado Poke Salad with Sriracha Aioli. Kai had the Mac & Cheeseburger and a Strawberry Shake. I also had a Samurai Li Hing Lemonade.

Of course, Kai needed his Leonard's malasadas fix before he left so we stopped by after dinner. He used the gift card from Aunty Lori to get a half dozen; he'll be taking a couple on the plane as a snack.

Kai also finally added the googly eyes to the robot vacuum; he patterned it after a salticid and put on 4 of the eyes that are visible from the front. Meet Dee the Jumping Spiderbot!

Ooops! Dee tried to get under something too low before the glue was completely set. Shiro checks out Dee's new look

This is the Year of the Dog so yesterday we went to the Hawai'i Doggie Bakery to pick up some treats for Chinese New Year. I had gone on line on Saturday and ordered Growlin' Doggie Gau and Good Luck Lai See for Dogs for Kai to take back for Louie. You can also pick up things for a dog's birthday and other things. But you have to make an appointment for pick up; we decided they make you do that since their parking lot is only large enough for 3 cars!

Goodies for Louie!

On the way back we saw an elk in the back of a truck! We aren't sure whether the elk was going to some place to be put up or leaving some place where it was before.

For dinner Kai & I went to Jawaiian Irie Jerk Restaurant. This will be Kai's only chance to try them out, Chef Cassie is moving back to Jamaica so the restaurant will be closing at the end of March. We started with the Chicken Bites, then Kai had the Goat Curry and I had the Combo Plate that has both Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork. Kai also had Jamaican style coffee which is served with condensed milk.

On Sunday we went to dinner at Curtis & Lori's house. Brent had wanted to talk to Kai about buying a new laptop and this was his only opportunity to do so while Kai was here. Kai's payment requested was a box of malasadas from Leonard's; Lori got him 2 gift cards from Leonard's so he could pick them up whenever he wanted.

Happy Birthday to Sidnee & Timna! Happy Belated Birthday to Dan, Moni, & David!

  1. Was that an elk statue or a deceased elk?. I'm pretty sure it isn't living unless it's been sedated, lol. Those ropes wouldn't do the trick on a live elk 😉
