Manu-o-Ku

We did a bunch of errands this morning. On the way to Don Quijote we passed some of the trees where the manu-o-ku, or white terns, are nesting. Hui Manu-o-Ku & the City have put blue flagging around each of the trees that the terns are nesting in; the flagging says, "NESTING WHITE TERNS - DO NOT TRIM".
There are about a dozen trees along this street that are flagged. (Photo by Kai)

At Don Quijote, someone has been feeding the pigeons! There was a big flock hanging around the parking structure.

Da Andagi Guy was at Don Quijote today. We stopped and picked up a dozen on our way out. Andagi is also known as Okinawan doughnuts, though they look more like doughnut holes.

Longs Drugs was our first stop this morning. We had to go back later because Kai forgot that the real reason he wanted to go to Longs this morning was to pick up a refill on his medications, not to check if they had Ka'u and Kona coffee on sale! On the way out the 2nd time we picked up some gau, or good luck mochi, and almond cookies for Chinese New Year which is February 16th this year.
Top: gau; bottom: almond cookies.

Here are photos of some of the things I picked up at the Waimea Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival last week.
Pue'o jewelry box.
Owl pin cushion.
Turtle pillow & throw blanket in and out of bag.
Picture frames decorated with beach glass and shell fragments.

Happy Birthday to Heather & Alison!
