Yesterday Greg (the other volunteer at Lapakahi) texted me & invited me to their family & friends holiday dinner. There was also a White Elephant gift exchange, but he said I didn't need to participate in that since the invitation was so last minute. I went & had a great time! I got to meet Dorina's sister Grace (who lives in Hilo with their mother) & brother James (who lives near me in the small subdivision on Akoni Pule Highway at the foot of the hill, their mom was there resting). I also met Greg's daughter Sarah, her partner Jason, & their dog Maddy (who are visiting from Maine). Also there was Dorina's boss David & fellow wrangler Sydney. Rounding out the group was Grace's daughter Elise & her partner Cody and Grace's friend Martin.

I even took part in the gift exchange; I wrapped up a box of smoked salmon. I have a friend that sends me some when she finds it on sale & Kai usually brings a couple boxes with him when he visits. In exchange I got a really cool salt & pepper set made from tiger cowrie shells (Cypraea tigris). There was also what I think is a butter knife made from part of a cowrie shell & some other shell that I am unable to identify.
Kīlauea was still erupting prior to the morning report, but went on "pause" about 11 am. It is apparently acting similarly to what it did on Monday when it went on pause. Here is the Monday map of the lava flow which has not been updated.
Hauʻoli lā Hānau e Doug & Lorna!
