Good Bye, Pepper!

I went with Curtis today to take Pepper to the vet. She has not been eating since she left our house; she hasn't been drinking water either. The vet has given her subcutaneous fluids twice since she got back home 2 weeks ago. Lori has been using an eye dropper to try to feed her and give her water. But today Lori decided it was time for Pepper to move on; she only weighed half as much as when she was eating. Lori made the appointment with the vet for the euthanasia and Curtis & I took Pepper in after breakfast. She went peacefully. Pepper was 16 or 17 years old, which is between 76 & 78 human years.

We went to Egghead Cafe for breakfast. Although Curtis had been here 2 other times, he could only remember the parking lot. Which is very small and busy; we got lucky and got the spot of a couple that had just finished breakfast. Curtis had the Chorizo Omelette; I had the Huevos Rancheros. Their Huevos Rancheros is very different than how other places make them. This recipe is more like what I am used to.

Chorizo Omelette.
Huevos Rancheros.

They have their own coffee mugs. And they have special koa plates that your bill comes on. Almost every table was taken while we were at breakfast. And according to Yelp we were there during one of the quieter hours!

I got a call just before lunch from the Hawai'i Wildlife Center. There is a pueo that needs to be transported from the Feather & Fur Animal Hospital to the airport tomorrow. From there it will go to HWC for treatment. Hopefully it will do better than the Bulwer's Petrel that I transported about a month ago; it died the day after it arrived.

The weather today was so nice compared to yesterday. It was sunny and clear. And fairly calm. I hope it stays that way while I am transporting the pueo.

Happy Birthday to Vicki!
