They're All Here Now!

Last night I picked up Rei & Kai from the airport. This morning we went to Pololū for the sunrise; but weren't quite able to see it rise. Too many clouds but it was still beautiful in a different sort of way.

When we stopped at Pomaikaʻi Café for breakfast, we were informed that Aunty Florence had left her cane when she was visiting in May! Rei will be taking it back with her since it collapses & will easily fit in her carry-on.

About lunch time, we headed to Waimea to pick up the last batch of booklets for the Kohala Reunion. This worked out well since Fran picked Tomiko up from the airport today & they needed to go to Waimea to pick up some supplies. We met them at Moa Kitchen for lunch. It is a Japanese restaurant with a yummy selection of dishes. I had the Yakitori Gourmet with a side of Miso Shiru. (Moa in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi means chicken; tori is the Japanese word.)

Clockwise from left: Yakitori Gourmet, Miso Shiru, & Soft-shell Crab appetizer.

We made a stop at Kahilu Theater where Tomiko gave us a more in depth explanation of her show that is currently hanging there. This was the 1st time Kai & Rei had seen it.

They did offer us the dessert menu at Moa Kitchen but we decided to go to Our Founding Farmers in Hāwī instead. We were craving Mark's homemade ice creams & sorbets made with fresh local fruits! After we left Kahilu, Kai, Rei, & I stopped to drop off the reunion booklets with Kathy, before we headed for ice cream. Tomiko & Fran still needed to finish their errand in Waimea before joining us. We couldn't help ourselves & started without them. We finished just as they arrived. Kai joined them for a 2nd round of ice cream. Needless to say, none of us felt like eating dinner after that!

Rei had lemon & surinam cherry, Kai had chocolate + chili, & I had chocolate & pistachio.

Moʻo & the cattle in the pasture in the back have an interesting relationship. Moʻo wants to play with them & some of the calves & yearlings look like they want to play with her. But the moms & the bull get a little anxious when she bounces around near the fence & barks at them. I am wondering if I will come home one day & find cattle in my yard!

The little brown yearling wants to play.
But mom is not too sure about that.

Later in the evening, Tomiko & Rei went through Baban's old clothes that I found stored in the sewing room closet. Many things fit Rei well; she is taking several things home with her.

Rei models one on Baban's pantsuits & top.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is saying another fountaining episode at Kīlauea is likely to occur sometime between July 7th & 12th. So Rei will not have another chance this visit to see it erupting, but Kai & Tomiko might.

Hauʻoli lā Hānau e Becky!
