We met Anne & Mary Kay at the Calico Cupboard Café in downtown La Conner for breakfast. La Conner is relatively close to Anacortes; it is on the east side of the Swinomish Channel while the Swinomish Reservation is on the west side. Anne & Mary Kay like to make at least 1 visit a year to the area; it's very quaint.

| I had Northwest Smoked Salmon Hash. Yes, I made everyone take a picture of their breakfast with my phone. |
After breakfast, we walked along 1st Street & checked out some of the small shops along the way back to the car. Although we stopped in at Lulu's Espresso & Ice Cream, we didn't buy anything even though they served one of Kai's favorite brands. We were too full from breakfast. (The 5-minute video below includes shots of the Swinomish Channel & other parts of La Conner; it was made about 3 years ago.)
We also went in to the Olive Shoppe which is next door to Lulu's. We met Gary who works there; Gary told us he has been going to Kona for vacation almost annually since he was 11 years old! He'll be there in October!
After we left La Conner, we headed to Chris & Ernie's place. We saw Chris last year, but Ernie had been staying home due to COVID; this year we got to see him, too! It was a very nice visit. I've known both of them about 30 years through our work at Snohomish County. In fact, Ernie actually had a meeting note on one of his old desk calendars for the 1st project we worked on together!

On our way to Chris & Ernie's, we passed by The Store Grocery; Lani had told us about it yesterday. She said they had amazing muffins that were like cakes. We will have to stop in some time & try it out.

For dinner we went to Shabbir & Ruqqya's in Snohomish for a home-cooked Pakistani meal. While there we met their granddaughter Zara who was spending the night. The meal was excellent! Which was no surprise since they owned & operated a restaurant until they retired a few years ago! We have known them for about 20 years. Kai used to do computer tech work for them at the restaurant where he got paid & fed. Tonight he helped Shabbir with some photo storage on their home computer.
On the drive back, we took the more scenic route along Highway 9. We also got to see a great sunset.

The next episode of the Kīlauea eruption is still anticipated to start some time late next week.
