Housesitting in Everett

Kai starts house sitting for Anne & Mary Kay today. Usually he also takes care of the 2 dogs, cat, & 4 chickens. But for this family vacation Koda & Joey got to go, too! Which I think made Cake (the cat) happy; she did not have to share Kai with the dogs. We met them about 18 years ago when they rented a house 2 houses down from us; I would take care of Catie's Critters when they went on vacation!

While we were driving up to Everett from Renton, Anne called to check in with Kai. She said they were still packing & would be leaving in about 15 minutes; Kai said we should be there before they left & we were! While they were packing up the SUV, neighbor Mark came over & propped up their leaning sunflower plant; its head was getting too top heavy. Mark will also be watering the sunflower while they are gone; it is in a planter box that the soil is slowly leaking out of.

After a short nap we headed to Shoreline to meet Barb for dinner at Hae-Nam Kalbi & Calamari. We ordered Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake), Tteokbokki (rice cake in spicy sauce), Youngyang Kalbi Jjim (braised short ribs with jujube & veggies), & banchan (side dishes). Unfortunately, I was so engrossed with catching up with Barb I forgot to take photos of the food, but at least I got photos of the menu which had photos of some of the food. I started doing social justice work with Barb about 30 years ago.

Duolingo tries to encourage me to practice. But sometimes I wonder it seems like it is trying to use reverse psychology to get me to practice. I know I am going to have a difficult time practicing while I am in Washington; I wonder how Duo will try to encourage me?

Duo tries to get me to practice.
But it feels like reverse psychology since I did worse than last week.

Today's daily update for Kīlauea mainly summarized the results of Episode 31. While the fountaining was not as high as some others, the lava ejected covered about 75% of the crater floor!

Hauʻoli lā Hānau e Susie, Jette, & Lyussy!
