As I predicted yesterday, the ants raiding the crumbs in the dog food bag are gone today. There is no steady stream of ants carrying food bits back to their hideout in the attic. There are just a few bodies in the liquid ant bait tray. Since there is still a little of the liquid in the tray, I will leave it there for a few more days to nab any stragglers that might be left behind. As long as the ants don't come in the house, I leave them alone. Except for Little Fire Ants (Wasmannia auropunctata); I will be going after them even if they don't come in the house.

I was examining the hapuʻu today to see how much taller the one closest to the deck needs to get before the fronds are not impeded by the railing. I also compared it to the ones growing further away. Currently the growing center is about 34" below the top of the railing; at the standard rate of growth for hapuʻu it will be 2059 by the time it reaches the top of the railing. That is not a typo, 2059. They grow very slowly which is why I want to protect them from the feral pigs who like to knock them over & eat out the starchy core.

The personalities of the cats are all a little different. ʻŌhuna loves to be outdoors; she was the last of the kittens I caught. Paʻipaʻi on the other hand if she were a human, would be a couch potato! Their body shapes also show their different lifestyles; up until recently Paʻipaʻi was obese. Not just overweight; she was obese! With knee problems to show for it. ʻŌhuna has never had a weight problem; if anything she would tend to be underweight.
