Day 3 Advancing Our Future

Day 3 of the Hawaiian Council's convention was short because it was the closing; people on the charter flights were boarding buses to leave the venue about an hour after the end of the event. The day started with a continental breakfast & time to network; I sat at a table with Bruce & his wife Barbara from Minnesota. Later my friend Barbie-Danielle, whom I had run in to on 2 of the other days, joined us. Turns out Barbie-Danielle & Barbara had met earlier in one of the sessions! The event ended with everyone holding hands & singing Hawaiʻi Aloha

After the event, I met up with Lehua & we went to the Tulalip Tribes' Hibulb Cultural Center museum; it is surrounded by the 50-acre Natural History Preserve. Lehua had gone to the session Missing and Murdered Native Hawaiian Women, Girls, Mahū, where a Native American speaker had said that the leaves of the western redcedar (Thuja plicata) help with the healing of the trauma suffered; there was a large cedar in the parking lot. We asked & were given permission to collect some of the leaves; we took mainly the ones that the tree was preparing to shed.

We took mainly the yellowish-brown leaves.

The day had started out overcast when I woke up. But it soon began to drizzle; I'm glad it waited until the last day of the convention. It would not have been as nice if we had to wait for the buses in the rain!

I had mentioned to Louis that I had left a message yesterday via Zillow to see his father's mobile home that he was selling but had not yet been contacted by the real estate agent. Louis put me in touch with his father; Kai & I did a walk through in the evening. It looks good! No mold issues! Here are photos from the Zillow listing.

Most of front porch is enclosed; it's insulated, has windows & power.
Open floor plan with living room, dining room & kitchen with minimal walls between; no carpet to collect dust & dirt.
Recently remodeled kitchen; all appliances will remain except refrigerator.
Drone's eye view.

After checking out the mobile home, we drove around to see what the surrounding area was like. It is closer to Smokey Point than to downtown Marysville but still has decent restaurants nearby. While there are also a couple of the usual grocery stores, it is still only 7 minutes from WinCo. We ended up having dinner at District 1 Bánh Mì since we were checking how long it would take Kai to get there from this mobile home; 9 minutes so within the acceptable time frame!

On the way to drop Kai off at home, we saw a deer standing on the side of the road in the subdivision. On the way out of the subdivision, I saw 3 deer & actually had to slow down for 2 that were crossing the road.

Sarah had texted earlier in the day asking for permission to pick more air plants (Tillandsia sp.); she uses them in decorations for events. Since she needed them for a wedding this weekend, I asked for some more info on her car & called Jessie to let her know it was OK for Sarah to come & pick them.

Episode 35 of the eruption at Kīlauea is still likely to begin some time between the 17th & the 21st.

Hauʻoli lā Hānau e Paula & Lori!
