North Kohala Police Newsletter

Some of you who have visited have asked me about crime rates here where I live & I have given you vague answers. Not because I didn't want you to know how bad it was; just that I don't pay much attention to the statistics because they are kind of meaningless to me. I go more by what I see in real life; are the police cars sitting by the side of the road waiting for traffic violators? (Yes, they are a lot of the time.) Or are they off somewhere else in the district, addressing more serious crimes? As you will see in some of the charts I have pasted in to this blog, there's not much serious crime where I live. If you want details you can follow this link to the online North Kohala Police Newsletter. FYI I like seeing the 2 officers per shift sitting on the side of the road, waiting for traffic violators; it means it is a low crime day in the district!

The dark blue is where I live; light blue is gated community at south end of district.

Generic info; there are no "pedestrian signals" in North Kohala.
I will be off-island when this happens so I won't have to deal with it. Yay!

At sunrise this morning, the day looked like it would be clear & sunny. And for the most part it was!

When I was watering the kalo early this morning, I saw a movement in the cat yard out of the corner of my eye. It was Hoʻokoa chasing birds! There was a small flock of Common Waxbills that had landed in the tall grass in the cat yard; he was going after them. Later I saw ʻŌhuna lurking in the tall grass while Moʻo bounced around outside the fence; she ignored Moʻo. In the evening, my exit was blocked by 16 pounds of cat; fortunately the floors are very smooth & I easily slid him out of the way with my foot.

The ʻAlani roadblock!

I cleared some of the boxes off the front porch so I could reposition the rocking chair. I wanted to make more room for Moʻo so she would have a more sheltered area on the front porch while I am gone.

Harold sent an email this morning with a link to another podcast. I listened to it; there was not as much technical jargon so it was easier for me to follow.

Got an email this morning reminding me that we are only 3 days away from the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement Convention. I will be attending the convention this year. (I had to skip it last year when it was only about 45 minutes from home because the Planning Department sent me to the Hawaiʻi Congress of Planning Officials conference the week before & it would have been too much for me to do in such a short amount of time.) I signed up for some fun pre-convention activities like lei making & how to play konane

My elementary school will be 100 years old next year! I hope to be able to go to the celebration. In the meanwhile, they are having an Alumni Gathering next week that I will have to miss.

I picked 3 of the older dragonfruit today. I gave 1 to Jessie; I dropped the 2 others off at ʻAnakē Maile's house. When I return there will be at least another 3 that I will have to find homes for.

The Roomba did not clean any rooms on the east portion of the house, it only cleaned the living room & front bedroom. I am hoping it will learn to clean the entire house while I am gone since my bedroom door will be open when it is active.

The next episode of the eruption at Kīlauea looks like it will not begin any time within the next 2 weeks. It also looks like the HVO will continue to issue the updates that I have become accustomed to.

Hauʻoli lā Hānau e Fran, Michele, & DT!
