The Central Pacific Hurricane Center's 7-Day forecast map shows 2 areas of potential concern for us here in Hawaiʻi. As predicted earlier this week, Fifteen-E has regained strength & is now Tropical Depression Fifteen-E. It is about 320 miles south-south-easterly of Ka Lae (South Point) & moving west-northwesterly at about 6 mph. It has maximum sustained winds of about 35 mph. The leading edge of the storm system brought more rain yesterday & it will continue for a few days after Fifteen-E passes by. A sharp turn towards the north is expected tomorrow as well as strengthening to hurricane-force by the weekend. Stay tuned!
Hurricane Odalys is not in the Central Pacific region & will likely never get here. It is showing an unusual track, heading east-northeasterly towards Baja California at about 8 mph. It is anticipated to continue towards the northeast & become weaker by the weekend.
