Loving Vincent

Kai & I went to see a most amazing film tonight, Loving Vincent. It is described as "the world's first fully oil painted feature film"; it tells the story of the last few years of Vincent van Gogh's life & his death. According to the website they painted 65,000 frames. Each shot started with an oil painting on canvas board which was then painted over for the next frame until the scene was completed. As you watch the movie you will see his paintings come to life to tell his story. I highly recommend it.

We started out the morning by taking the old Subaru to Z Sport Automotive; the brakes need some work. We will pick it up later in the week. We then went to Petite Sweet Bakery for breakfast. Kai had macaroni & cheese and eggnog cheesecake. I had the bacon tomato cheddar quiche.

I had always meant to go to the WSU Connection store to try the Cougar Gold cheese; it comes in a can. The process to can the cheese was developed during World War II to enable it to be sent overseas to Europe. If unopened and refrigerated it will last indefinitely; a great addition to the emergency food supply! Once opened storage life is similar to other cheeses & dependent on how it is handled. Kai calls it Apocalypse Cheese. It actually tastes pretty good, it is a mild cheddar that continues to age in the can.

After breakfast we also went to Performance Marine. Kai was looking for moisture absorbers for the old Subaru. It has a leak he has been unable to find, there is so much moisture in the car he has to wipe off the inside of the windshield in order to be able to see well enough to drive.

We went to lunch with Mary Ellen, Michael, Amelia,  & Patricia at Piroshky & Crepes. They serve piroshkeys and crepes! And a whole bunch of types of teas. They also have pastries and borscht. We tried a variety of things.

After lunch Sherie came over to the house to give us haircuts. She also trimmed Kai's beard. She had enough hair to make a small dog!

Look at all that hair!

For dinner we met David & Sarah at Ba Bar. David & Sarah had the Crispy Imperial Rolls and Bun Bo Hue. Kai had the Spicy Pork Belly and a Saigon Float. I had the Lemongrass Beef Bun Bowl. It was great! We'll have to go back and try some other things.

Yesterday was primarily a travel day. But it was also a Tuesday so it started with "breakfast" with Curtis. Since we went on the way to the airport it was actually closer to lunch; we went to the Forty-Niner Restaurant which is located in a historic building. Curtis had the Pork Roast Plate; I had the Egg Burger since I was going to be sitting on a plane for the next 6 hours.

Most of the flight was uneventful even with 2 crying babies. They fed us a complimentary meal of teriyaki chicken sandwich, potato chips, & a chocolate covered macadamia nut. I tried to read the book that Kasondra gave me, The Man in the High Castle but I fell asleep since I had not slept well the night before. When I woke up it was too dark to read without the  overhead light (which I couldn't reach) so I watched Lilo & Stitch. I had seen billboards when it first came out. Since I had no TV I didn't know which one was Lilo and which one was Stitch, I also thought it was an ugly dog; Kai had to straighten me out on that!
