Oooops!

In the middle of class this morning I spilled my tea. Since I keep my tea in a water bottle it did not spill all over my laptop or the desk or my phone. Most of it went on the floor. Fortunately there was a towel nearby that I could throw on the puddle so I could clean it up during class. If it had been my Miro water bottle there would have been less of a spill, but I only use that one for water during the afternoon portion of class.

Our guest lecturer this morning was Dr. Kau'i Merritt. She presented about Epidemiology.

It was interesting to hear about these 2 examples of early epidemiology cases. The one on the left was essentially solved by contact tracing!

This was an interesting exercise. See if you can figure out what's going on.

I can remember some of my statistics and biostatistics. But not a lot of it.

Dr. C gave us time after lunch to meet with our groups from Dr. Ric's class for our "of the day" presentations. Since our group has finished our "of the day" presentation last Friday, we started thinking about our final project which is a poster for the Area Health Education Center conference in September.

There are 2 Roombas in the house. Every morning I turn on the one that lives in the family room; it cleans the family room, kitchen, dining room, the hallway to my bedroom, and the bathroom that I use. The other Roomba lives in the living room. I let The Roommates run that one cleans the living room, hallway to The Roommates room, and the main bathroom. That way they can find all the cat toys and put them away.
The family room Roomba.
The living room Roomba.

The Roommates are ready if we have to go in to a higher level of lock down. They have snacks to last for months!

Lots of COVID news today. There has been an outbreak at Honolulu Hale; the Mayor was potentially exposed via a staff member in his office who tested positive. About 1000 government staff members were tested today. Dr. Miscovich says the rate of spread is now up to 1.36; it began to rise above 1 on May 7th when the local economy began to open up. Quite a number of citations were issued this weekend for infractions of the COVID-19 emergency orders. The University is moving towards doing as many classes online as possible. Over the next couple of days a local Walmart is being deep-cleaned; apparently the company is doing this to several stores across the nation.

It looks like Arka Kinari is still in Guam. Tropical Depression Six is expected to strengthen in the next couple of days as it heads towards Taiwan. While Typhoon Mekkhala heads northerly away from Taiwan.

There is a disturbance about 1900 miles southeasterly of us; it has a 70% chance of becoming a tropical depression in the next 5 days. It is slowly moving westerly. The hurricane center will be keeping an eye on it; systems coming from the south have the potential to really cause a lot of damage if they get close to us.

There were 3 new deaths from COVID-19 reported today, bringing the number of deaths up to 34. There were also 140 new positive cases, bringing that total up to 3638. The number of people now out of isolation is 38% of cases; there are 2018 active cases.

These next 2 are from LG Green's daily Facebook Live post. He provides additional important statistics that are not available through the department of health.
