Change in Plans

Usually when things are changed, the Data Entry Center is the last to know about it. But today Koa came to us in the morning to talk about making a change that they thought would help us enter data faster. The Acuity & Data Analysis group that is responsible for on-line registration is creating a spread sheet to help populate the fields that we enter for the demographics for each record. In theory, they can export the Excel spreadsheet to VAMS to populate the data in the demographics page, that will speed up our data entry by about 1 minute per record. If it works. This morning I told Koa I wanted to do a small test run of 30 minutes to an hour's worth of appointments to see whether populating the fields via the spreadsheet would help or hinder the process. By this afternoon Koa had completed building the spreadsheet & linking it to the on-line registration; but he was not sure we would have enough information to do a test tomorrow since nearly all the appointments had already been made by the time he uploaded the questionnaire to the One Oʻahu registration site. So we have decided to schedule the test for some time next Tuesday. For today we entered 946 forms; the expected number was 989.

Lunch today was from Sugoi Bento; the vegetarian option was the Oriental Salad. Even though it does not have much protein at all I decided to go with it to lower the amount of calories I am taking in today.

Yes, I am having to eat indoors now.

Today I covered over 1 mile while checking on things as the data entry lead. I donʻt know exactly how much ground I covered since I only remembered to turn on the Samsung app while I was on my way to pick up my lunch.

On the way home I stopped at Times, I wanted to introduce Paris to furikake salmon. But they had none of the fillets left; I ended up getting a pre-made bento for each of us for dinner. I did not like it; I thought it was too dry. But Paris said she liked it; wait until she tries the good stuff!

The LG gave his update today; per a study in The Lancet, 88% of cases can be identified with pre-travel testing. There were 100 new cases of COVID-19 reported today, bringing the known cases up to 29,681. There was 1 new death reported today, bringing the the death toll up to 463; currently 1200 cases are considered to be active. The 7-day new case average for O'ahu is 58 with a 2.2% positivity rate.

First Day As Lead

Today was the first day that Deneen & I spent as the leads for the LCC POD Data Entry Center. At Deneen's suggestion, we started out with everyone introducing themselves & giving a 1 or 2 minute brief intro; found out a lot of cool things about people. We had a new person this morning who is replacing another person who decided data entry was not what she was suited for; she was correct in her perception, she made a lot of mistakes. It started out rocky with the new person, about 30 minutes into the work day she asked if she could come in at 11 because she had 'appointments' she needed to take care of with her son in the morning. I told her that wouldn't work for us since the first 2 hours of the day are the busiest for us. Interestingly, by the end of the day she was able to work it out with her husband taking care of the 'appointments' in the morning with her son. We also had one of the regulars come in 15 minutes late & another had to leave at lunch because her arm started getting numb, she had a blood draw yesterday & her doctor was concerned there might be some nerve damage & wanted to check on her right away. In spite of all that, we processed 1089 forms & still got out  by 4 pm.

Lunch today was from Sistah Truck. The vegetarian option was a vegetarian burrito; it was filled with a slice of Spicy Korean Tofu (that wasn't spicy at all), sauteed vegetables, & some rice. It had a nice, mild salsa verde. There was also a tasty leche con arroz dessert. I think the tofu needs more flavor; I think next time I will try the regular meal.

Kīlauea caldera is still active; if it continues the level of the lava will rise high enough to be visible from the edge of the lookout area. The video below shows lava entering the lava lake at about 20x the actual speed that it is moving.

There were 71 new cases of COVID-19 reported today, bringing the total known cases up to 29,581. There were no new deaths reported so the death toll remains at 462; currently there are 1175 cases considered as active. The 7-day average of new cases on Oʻahu is 55 with a positivity rate of 1.8%.

Lazy Day

Because Sunday is my Fast Day, I tend to spend a lot of time in a prone or supine position. Today I also got side-tracked and watched a CDC educational video on Diagnostic Features of Intestinal Nematodes; I found it to be interesting. I was actually looking for information on Rat Lungworm Disease. (This is about parasites living in humans. DO NOT click on the video below if you're not sure you can handle it!!!)

I weighed myself this morning. I had been doing it on Friday mornings but kind of got out of that habit. I think I need to get back to that since Saturday is a Feast Day so I tend to be heavier on Sunday morning since I am still processing Saturday's intake. I also took a nap; conserving my energy since I'm not eating today. But maybe I shouldn't. May be I should be burning more calories?

The Aix weather app forecast a little rain in the morning and through 2 in the afternoon. But it was dry and somewhat sunny all day. It forecast that Kohala would be rainier; the Kīlauea webcam aimed in that direction showed a drizzle going on.

No rain.
Looks like some drops on the lens.

I checked on some of the plants today. The little bumps on the orchid are getting larger and beginning to look like flower buds. But the kalo do not appear to be doing anything.

Still no sign of any shoots.
But these are looking promising.

Today was the end of the latest Duolingo challenge; I just did enough this week to keep myself from slipping back to the lower level.

The web cams at Kīlauea caldera looked deceptively calm in the daylight; just a little bit of steam. The thermal image showed a slightly smaller hot spot.

The web cam from the Canada-France-Hawaiʻi telescope showed a lot of cloud cover. The Kohala area seemed to be shrouded in clouds.

There were 102 new cases of COVID-19 reported today; bringing the total known cases up to 29,408. There were no new deaths reported today so the fatalities remain at 462; currently there are 1104 cases considered active. The 7-day new case average for Oʻahu is 52 with a 1.9% positivity rate.
