I had to go to Waimea this morning so I started with breakfast from Aloha Burger at the Waimea location at the Waimea Town Market at Parker School. I had to try the Best Breakfast Burger in Town (BBBT). It was quite messy but I did like the flavor of their cinnamon coconut syrup. I think next time I will request the bun on the side & treat it like toast while eating the rest with a utensil instead of my hands.
I left the house quite early in order to be back in time for my massage with Becky. I had already rescheduled twice so I did not want to miss it or change it once again. It started out quite drizzly, but cleared up a little & was a pleasant drive. The temperature was a little warmer than 2 weeks ago and there was even a rainbow in Waimea.

The main reason to be in Waimea was to do laundry again. I have a better idea now about which washers & dryers to use & how much it will all cost. Since I am doing 2 weeks worth of laundry I use the 3x washers (there is no 2x option) which is $6. When it is time for drying I split the load in to heavy stuff & light stuff. I start the heavy stuff on high for 20 minutes & the light stuff on high for 10 minutes. I usually need a few more minutes for some of the items in each of those categories. Drying is $0.25 per minute. All total, it is costing me about $15 or $16 per laundry trip. And I am now leaving the laundry detergent in the car so I won't forget it. I will likely have to do this 2 more times, possibly 3. But I hope no more than that!

While there, I also stopped at the Kamuela Farmers Market at Pukalani Stables to see if Michael at Elemental Plants had any native akulikuli (Sesuvium portulacastrum). He did not, he suggested getting online & order from Maui Native Plants where he gets some of his materials. As I wandered through the farmers market, I found another plant booth, ESP Nursery, that carried the non-native ice plant that many people mistakenly think is the native akulikuli; in fact their plants were labelled akulikuli. I think they are actually a type of Lampranthus spp. & Mr. Pang confirmed what I suspected: the different colors I bought are different species of Lampranthus. I will have to watch them while they flower & set seed to see if I can figure out which species they are; I have 6 plants, each with a different color flower.

I also stopped at GJ's Huli Huli Chicken; they're only open on Saturday & Sunday. I decided to try their pork ribs; I had tried their beef ribs a couple months ago & was not impressed. I also got a huli huli chicken for Jessie since she is always watching out for who might be coming around when I am not here. I rounded out my order with pancit, ube butter mochi, banana lumpia, & cascaron. 😋
The scientists were right! Kīlauea started erupting again just before midnight last night. The fountains in eruption Episode 6 were highest at about 150 feet shortly after it began erupting; by mid-morning they were only about 50 to 100 feet high. Then shortly after 12 noon, around 13 hours after it started, it paused again. It is keeping everyone guessing!
