Renovations in the Rain

It was raining since about midnight & judging by when I woke up about 4 to use the bathroom, seemed like it never stopped. Only slowed down a little. It drizzled until about 11.

At about 7:45; Chris & Spencer generally start at 8.
Still raining at about 8 am. Continued for about an hour before slowing to a drizzle.

I have not been consistent in what I am calling the renovated space. The only thing I have been consistent about is calling the renovated closet the "Cat Genie room". That's because that is where both Cat Genies will be housed; there will also be storage cabinets there for the cat & dog items like food, toys, towels, etc. I still haven't completely decided whether to call the remaining space the "office" (I will have my laptop, printer, shredder, etc., set up there), the "study" or "library" (there will be a wall of built-in shelves for books), or the "studio" (the flat file & art work will be stored there).

Fortunately Chris & Spencer now have an inside space to work on when the weather is wet like it is today. They did a little more prep work in the office/study/library/studio; they removed the interior wall & added the support beam for the roof. They now have to wait for wiring & fixtures before they close up the walls.

Really opened things up.

Looks like a real room now!

They moved on to replacing the 2 old windows in back bedroom with the impact-resistant windows. Because this is also the bedroom where the bulk of the items being stored in the sewing room were moved to, even though I had left space in front of each window, it was still a tight squeeze for them to work in there.

New window installed.
Screen removed, waiting for new window.

Boyd came by after lunch & worked on dismantling the 2nd crate; the repurposed wood will be used to build the Front Porch for the Kohala Reunion talk story sessions hosted by the Kohala Culture & History Advisory Group. We got most of it done by the time he had to leave; there's one more side to be dismantled & have the staples removed.

One side done, 3 more to go.
At the end of the day.
So much more space in garage again!

Boyd & I wanted to attend the Kohala Community Land Trust meeting that started at 5 so we ended earlier than we did previously. The meeting was well attended; I estimate there were about 75 people there who looked to be mainly members. The mission of KCLT is to provide permanently affordable housing for Kohala residents. Besides the lower price that will allow more families to purchase a house, I think the other appeal to residents is that the land will remain under the control of residents with close family ties to the land.

Today was another 2 Status Report day as Kīlauea once again went on pause after the morning email was sent out. Photos of it in the active phase are in yesterday's post.
