Hale Vietnam

I skipped lunch today since The Bronco Dude wanted to take us out for an early dinner. We went to Hale Vietnam in Kaimukī. We started out with 4 different appetizers: Temple Rolls, Summer Rolls, Imperial Rolls, & Stuffed Chicken Wings. Then we also ordered individual meals; I ordered the BBQ Shrimp Noodle Bowl (Bún Tôm Nuóng). Everything was delicious.

After dinner we went to Via Gelato right next door for ice cream. Tonight I tried the Dark Chocolate Sorbetto; it has a stronger chocolate bitterness because it has less sugar. I liked it.

This is from their online ordering site.

As we were taking Breanna back home, The Bronco Dude decided he wanted shave ice; he had skipped the ice cream. We headed to Shimazu Shave Ice which is located in Hawaiʻi's Favorite Kitchens which is next door to the original Rainbow Drive-In on Kapahulu Avenue. In spite of what their Yelp info says, they were closed at 5 p.m. So we headed for Waiola Shave Ice which was open for another hour.

Since today is a Feast Day, I made a maiʻa proothie this morning. I used 2 apple bananas that I had gotten from Kokua last Sunday.

The Bronco Dude is spending the night with us because I am taking him to the airport tomorrow. After I picked him up, we made a quick stop at Kokua Market so I could get more supplies; I needed more cottage cheese & we were also running low on eggs. I also picked up some Turkey Chili, Mushroom & Artichoke Salad, and Sauteed Broccoli & Kale.

During dinner I got a text from my friend Jeff; they had a baby girl this afternoon about 1 p.m. our time. Ginny is 19 inches and 7pounds 12 ounces. Jeff reports that, "Everyone is doing well." Congratulations!

I also got a text from Suzanne; she was looking for info on what was needed for their trip in December. The Safe Travels video is a little confusing; I think it should have started out by saying, "If you are fully vaccinated, here is what you need to do ..." But instead, it starts out by talking about the older 72-hour pre-travel testing, then goes in to info about vaccination. I sent her a bunch of information & was able to clarify things for her. She is now less stressed.

Kīlauea is still erupting.

The Aix weather app forecast partly cloudy skies for Honolulu with rain beginning after dark; except for the rain after dark it was accurate. For Kapaʻau, Aix forecast early morning rain turning to drizzles until mid-afternoon when there would be partly cloudy skies until after dark when drizzles would begin again. Big Island Now forecast mostly sunny with isolated showers & a 20% chance of rain. The Honomū weather station was dry in the morning but had collected 0.03 inches by 6:23 p.m.; it appears that Big Island Now was more accurate. For Marysville, Aix forecast rain until mid-morning, then partly cloudy skies for the remainder of the day; the traffic cams appeared to support that.

There was a magnitude 4.7 earthquake off the coast of Oregon last night. It did not generate a tsunami.

There were 218 new cases of COVID-19 reported today, bringing the total known cases up to 86,740; apparently 90 of these are backlogged cases meaning 128 are current cases. There were also 4 new deaths reported, pushing the death toll to 1002; currently there are 1581 cases considered active. The 7-day new case average for the State is 115 with a positivity rate of 1.4%. The 7-day new case average for Oʻahu is 63 also with a positivity rate of 1.4%.
