Holy's Bakery

Every so often Rhonda from Holy's Bakery bakes a bunch of stuff; she sends out a text to take orders. I found out about this from hoa hānau Fran some time last year & have been on Rhonda's text group since then. Last night I ordered andagi & poi balls (to share with Chris & Bella) & a mini apple pie (as an emergency dessert) to be picked up today.

Clockwise from top: mini apple pie, andagi, & poi balls.

Last night I noticed that the pasture was mowed but it was too dark to take a photo. I got some photos this morning. I need to go along the fence line now & clean it out very thoroughly to slow the weeds from getting in to the maiʻa patch & other things by the back fence.

Fence line looks a lot neater!
Well-mowed pasture.
The cow-pruned ʻōhiʻa ʻai branch used to hang over the fence.

It looks like the blue iris that Libby gave me had 1 bloom that I missed seeing. But it also looks like there are 4 others that will be blooming soon. I will have to remember to check it every morning! Sadly 1 bud appears to have been nipped off by a slug or snail

(L to R) #4 looks like it has bloomed & passed; #6 was nipped off!

For lunch today Chris & I went to Pomaika'i Cafe; it is next to Holy Bakery so it was convenient to pick up my order from Rhonda. When I ate my Furikake Salmon Salad, it looked & tasted different; I remarked to Chris that I never had it with mandarin oranges, macadamia nuts, & teriyaki sauce before. It was also cut up in chunks; usually it is a nice sized fillet. I found out later it was because they accidentally gave me the teriyaki chicken salad! No wonder it tasted different!

Not a Furikake Salmon Salad.

In the afternoon, I also went to Jim's house to pick up pet screen for Chris to use in the old-fashioned plantation-style door he is building for the Lumi Pōpoki. Jim told me they are planning on making tamales tomorrow; I put in an order for a dozen.

While researching something else on-line, I found an old hand drawn map showing Greenbank & an aerial photo that was labelled. It will give you a better idea of where I was last week.

Greenbank (yellow) was near my grandparents' home (red); north at bottom of map. (From russellchang.com)

Today Chris worked on the exterior door to the deck & also the Cat Genie room. I like the shape of the hole he made for the cat access in to the Cat Genie room. I want the Cat Genie litterboxes somewhat separated from the rest of the room to contain the odors & noise; there will also be storage for cat & dog supplies there as well as a sink to make clean up easier.

Door opens out for more space inside room; it will be closed most of the time.

Apparently Kai has been feeling under the weather; some crud is going around in Everett. So he has not left Anne & Mary Kay's house. This morning he made it just outside the bathroom door before he got light-headed & needed to lie down.  Anne kindly fed him, covered him up, put a pillow under his head, put a pair of socks on his feet, & sent a photo to me saying, "I thought pictures would be humorous 😆" I was wondering why no dogs were piled up on him! Perhaps they knew he was ill & decided to stay away. (There's another bathroom upstairs so they let him stay there.)

I figured out what was preventing me from downloading photos & corrected it! So if you read the posts for the 6th through 9th that had no photos check back in a week or so to see what was missing. I will probably be editing 1 a day until they are completed.

The eruption at Kīlauea is still paused. Scientists believe Episode 10 may happen in 2 to 5 days. Stay tuned!
