I saw Michelle at Motek Bakery today when I went to pick up the orange sticky bun I forgot earlier this morning. We sat & talked for a while & I happened to mention that I had part of an ʻolena patch that needed to be dug up & moved so Emily has an easier time mowing the lawn. She volunteered to come over today & help dig it up; I gave her the bulk of it for her laʻau lapaʻau; about 10 pounds. I kept about a pound to use in my smoothies.
The Motek breakfast special this morning was a new dish: mashausha. It is garbanzo beans in hummus with tahini, olive oil, garlic, & a hard-boiled egg. It's like a savory soup; I would order this again.
I also ordered an orange sticky bun; I forgot to take a photo of it when I had gotten one before. I was hoping to remember to get a photo this time before I ate it. But I started out forgetting it completely! I went back after breakfast to pick it up.
The light pink ice plant was blooming this morning! But it looked white; perhaps it needs some sun to "sunburn" the petals to give it the light pink look.
The cows were up by the house this evening. There were 5 cows & 4 half-grown calves; no bulls. One of the calves was bellowing just like the other night. But it wasn't stuck; it was just walking along complaining. The big white cow that is the friendliest one reached over the fence & began eating the mountain apple leaves that were hanging within reach. Fortunately it is only that one branch that is close enough for them to reach.
The reason I mentioned the bellowing calf was that around midnight last night, Shari, the neighbor who lives a couple houses down & that I have only texted with, texted me concerned that the bellowing bull she heard was caught in the brush that was piled by Travis & Owen for Surety down on the lower cane haul road & was injured. (She was sure it was a bull since she "was raised on a farm".) I could tell from my location that whomever was bellowing was not stuck since the bellowing moved slowly down the hill towards her house. I texted her when I was more awake the next morning & let her know the bovine was bellowing while walking down the hill. Later I sent her the cow photo & let her know that I saw no bulls today.
Ken is hosting Reggae Yard on KSER 90.7fm tonight. He said he would give a shout out to the Greenbank crew & he did. I heard about Ken's experience with the Night Marchers when I hosted a Hawaiian music show on Halloween & played a set of songs about the Night Marchers. Ken was coming in to do his show right after mine & said he had lived at Greenbank; I told him I knew where that was & spent time living near there! It was a great connection! I am hoping he will be able to make it to the Kohala Reunion this year; if he does Boyd said he would take Ken out to Greenbank if their schedules work out.
I dropped out of the Pearl League in Duolingo again. I am now in the Amethyst league; have to try harder to get back up.
The eruption at Kīlauea is still on pause.
