Yo Soy Milk

Really! I go through about a 1/2 gallon a week. Here are some photos as I am making the soy milk. It is about a 1 hour process.

Beans soak overnight.
Discovered I can use hot water at start.
Soymilk needs to be boiled 20 minutes to denature compounds that bind to certain nutrients in body.
Need to watch it carefully at this stage.
It took 19 seconds to go from OK to almost boiling over.
The skin that formed on top of the boiling soymilk.
Liquid that drained from the ground beans; I need to get a nut milk bag.
My current dry bean container.
I'm filling this one up on my next visit to Kokua Market.

My fingers are doing better; no constant pain and throbbing like last night. I had to sleep with a gel ice pack on my hand last night to keep my fingers from throbbing & keeping me awake. There is hardly any discoloration and today it is apparent that the part of my fingers I burned are the very tips of my middle & ring finger. How do I know? When I tried to blog last night I had immediate pain whenever I pressed on a key; when there was no pressure the pain subsided. I also smeared aloe vera gel on my fingertips.

I used the last of the fennel greens in my proothie this morning. I'm going to miss their interesting taste.

Around lunch time it poured! I was so distracted by the downpour I forgot to take a photo of my lunch.

This was taken 2 minutes after the first photo.
Usually the standing water is only on the greenish parts of the concrete.

I found that some of the arugula got a little frozen in the back of the refrigerator; I used them for dinner. I sauteed them with a smoked chicken & apple sausage.

It always looks like too much when I throw it in the pan.
But a few minutes later it looks like not enough!
By dinner the rain had past & it was sunny again.

For dessert I had about 1/4 of one of the large cookies that The Roommate Who Likes to Wash Dishes was given earlier today.

Saw this amazing post on Facebook about what I can only call pie art. This lady does some truly amazing things with pie. I don't think I would not be able to spend so much time on something that is so fleeting.

Here's some more food porn. I think I would try this since it's not as time consuming as the pies.

Smithsonian Magazine had a great article about about the more than 300 treaties that were digitized. The US National Archives and the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture is making these available for research.

I have seen a lot of Snow Geese in the Skagit Valley; its part of the North American flyway. You can see them coming in from miles away; but you can hear them before you see them. I have never seen one here. It arrived along with the other tourists now that we have the pre-arrival testing program!

And now for a little more humor.

I have been watching some videos by Dr. Mike Hansen. Since early this year his videos are mainly about various aspects of COVID-19; he is a pulmonary specialist.

The Washington Post has a great mask chart. By using it you can assess how risky your in-person interactions might be. Besides masked or unmasked and outdoors or indoors, they also give you 3 volume options as well. I would err on the side of caution when using this or any other guideline for keeping you and you 'ohana as safe as possible.

Due to the burnt fingertips, this was posted later than the date shown. I was distracted & forgot to get the graphs that are changed daily. There were 87 new cases of COVID-19 today for a grand total of 14,155 known cases. There were 2 new deaths today, bringing that total to 189. The 7-day average for Oʻahu was 66 with a 2.9% positivity rate. There were 12326 active cases with a 80% recovery rate.
