My Turn

I got up this morning with a sore throat. Auē! Am I coming down with something? Or is it just the early morning air conditioning? I took a QuickVue At-Home OTC COVID-19 test. Like DT's last night, it came back negative; I will be testing again in 3 days if his Day 3 test comes back positive.

Unboxing; instructions in Spanish are also included.
Swab stays in solution tube for 1 minute.
Test strip stays in solution tube for 10 minutes.
The result: negative.
I still need to read this.

In the meanwhile I will be restricting my activities. I texted Francisco & said I would not be at the Community Forester tree inventory this morning. I was really looking forward to it; I wanted to also check out all the different restaurants along that part of Kapahulu Avenue. Later in the day Francisco sent an email; there will be no inventory next week. But there will be another training opportunity on identifying potential tree planting sites. I'll wait until DT's Day 3 test results before responding.

Last night the Roommate Who Likes to Wash Dishes asked if I could take him in to work if The Potential Most Favorite Roommate was not feeling well enough to go to work. This morning The Potential Most Favorite Roommate was feeling much better; in fact he was doing so well he did not come home at mid-morning. Since I was going no where this morning I made a beet proothie for breakfast.

Last night DT said if he was feeling better this morning, he was going to work. He did not. His temperature is still fluctuating & he still has a nasty-sounding cough. Even though his test came back negative, I am continuing to wipe down the kitchen surfaces with Microban; it works against regular microorganisms as well.

For dinner I had another bag of larb that I pulled out of the freezer. I alos had some of the mushroom & artichoke salad and Cashew Crusted Cauliflower from the Kokua Market deli.

The connection of the waterline for the Halaʻula Well Development will start this evening; it is scheduled to be done by early tomorrow morning. Water will be shut off from 11 p.m. tonight to 3 a.m. tomorrow. Cousins Laurel & Bill are in the area that will be affected by the shutdown as well as the Hawaiʻi Wildlife Center & the Ohtas.

Every 10 years, after the U. S. Census, local governments adjust the boundaries of voting areas due to shifts in the population. The Honolulu Reapportionment Committee has completed the process & issued a map showing the new districts. The population in each district is supposed to be "equal" but up to a 10% deviation is allowable; the new map has a 3.3% deviation. I like that they used the ahupuaʻa as part of their consideration for drawing boundaries, rather than gerrymandering a district to give one group a distinct advantage over another.

The USGS has an Image of the Week video; this week Kīlauea was the subject.

The Aix weather app forecast drizzle until mid-morning for Honolulu, followed by partly cloudy skies. There was a very light drizzle in the morning but partly sunny skies prevailed for most of the day. For Kapaʻau, Aix forecast drizzle during the daylight hours turning to rain in the evening. Big Island Now forecast mostly sunny with isolated showers & a 20% chance of rain. The Honomū weather station recorded no precipitation for the day. For Marysville, Aix forecast drizle during daylight hours turning to a moderate rain after dark; the traffic cams supported that.

The surf looks like it was best along the north facing shorelines. Some smaller breaks were presnt on west facing shores.

There were 184 new cases of COVID-19 reported today, bringing the total known cases to 83,706; this daily number is higher than the combined new case numbers from the last 2 days (171) which represented cases confirmed by testing done on the weekend when less testing is available. There was also 1 new death reported, increasing the death toll to 889; currently there are 1733 cases considered active. The 7-day new case average on Oʻahu is 72 with a positivity rate of 1.9%.

The Delta variant continues to be the main cause.
