Those Cats!

They're getting spoiled! They ran out of the anti-hairball food so they are getting Meow Mix Tender Favorites catfood until The Roommates can get to the vet to pick up the other food.

I texted Alexis today to see when she will be coming in to start the Oʻahu Seabird Aid program this year. She said Hawaiʻi Wildlife Center is trying to increase the amount of time she will be working. If they are successful she may be here as soon as the end of the week; if not she will be here on November 12th.

No breakfast or lunch photos because this is a Fast Day. For dinner I had the beef taco & Curried Cauliflower. This taco was also bland although it was more tender than the venison. In case you are wondering whether I have lost my sense of taste & should go get a COVID-19 test, relax; I could taste the tomato in the taco, it was good.

I finished #2 on the Duolingo leaderboard that I was on! I earned an extra 120 gems for my hard work.

There is still only one active vent at Kīlauea. It is alonf the westerly edge of the lava lake. It is still above the level of the lake surface.

The Aix weather app forecast rain in the early morning, then drizzle until about noon, followed by partly cloudy skies until after dark. There was only drizzles in the early morning then later after dark with partly cloudy skies during the day. For Kapaʻau, Aix forecast rain all day; Big Island Now forecast mostly cloudy with scattered showers int eht morning diminishing to isolated showers in the afternoon with a 50% chance of rain. The Honomū weather station recorded no precipitation. For Marysville, Aix forecast rain all day with the most during the middle of the day; it is from the bomb cyclone that was most intense in central California. I also checked the traffic cam during the middle of the day; the freeway was wet during the daylight hours but appeared to be drying out after dark.

Apparently there is a neighborhood in Waimea that has traditionally hosted a Halloween event but this year the Lua Lai Halloween Event has been cancelled. The decision was made about a month ago during the surge in COVID-19 cases caused by the Delta variant.

There were 163 new cases of COVID-19 reported today, bringing the total known cases up to 83,351. There were also 3 new deaths reported, increasing the number of fatalities to 888; currently there are 1686 cases that are considered to be active. The 7-day new case average on Oʻahu is 72 with a positivity rate of 1.9%.
