Everybody Loves a Warm Wipe!

That's what the baby wipe warmer box says; it arrived yesterday. Today Dan from the maintenance staff at Maunalani checked it out, gave it his seal of approval, we filled it up & plugged it in. It says it takes 3 hours to get up to temperature, so Curtis will have to see how well Dad likes the warm wipes this evening.

Warmer in action!

I am setting my alarm clock 5 minutes earlier over the next month, so now it goes off at 6:10; but I got up on my own at 6 a.m. today. I needed some extra time so that I could start my walk earlier, thus ending it earlier, & getting in to get Dad set up for breakfast earlier. Why the rush? Chibi had an appointment for her biennial geriatric cat check-up; she is 11&1/2 years old now. I am glad I do my longest walk first thing in the morning; today felt very warm even at 7 a.m., the heat index was 99 degrees F, the trade winds were not blowing, & it was very humid. By the time I was done my entire shirt was soaked through except for the pockets; there are 2 layers of material there to be saturated. I didn't see many people out this morning & there were no Kolea at the park. But I did see the bunch of Monstera fruits ripening on Matsonia.

Chibi did very well during her visit with Dr. Sylvester. She wasn't quite as anxious as she usually is. She was in very good health which is nice to hear since she is FIV-positive. When we first got her 11 years ago she was already FIV-positive; all the other cats were negative. We decided to keep her anyway; we supervised their play time to prevent biting which is how FIV is transmitted. They were kept in separate rooms when we weren't around & I also worked on behavior modification to stop any aggressive behavior on anyone's part. During their annual check-ups the rest of the cats were tested for FIV and all were negative; after 5 years or so I stopped testing them. Once they moved to Hawai'i they were allowed free access without separation.

On our way back from the vet we saw a caravan of police vehicles and motorcycles on Waialae. I have not been able to find out what the escort was about; there were a lot of them.

This week my mid-morning walk is from the upper parking lot, down to the park, then down Matsonia, up Lurline, & back to the upper parking lot. Because of the heat today at mid-morning I only walked down to the park and back from the lower parking lot. I saw a Kolea there; it looked like it was enjoying the heat! On the way back I saw the White-rumped Shama (Copsychus malabaricus) that has been hanging out at the intersection with Sierra & Matsonia; I was able to get a photo of it this time.

Lunch today was Pork stew, Steamed rice, Steamed corn, Tossed salad, Brownie, & Chicken Jook. Dad refused the solids again but drank the supplements, then he went to sleep.

I was going to take a walk tonight to get in my 3.3 miles for today. But I only remembered it after I finished my shower; I didn't want to take another so I skipped my night walk.

Happy Birthday to Steve! Happy Anniversary to Rebecca & Bill!
