Dad's Memorial

Today we held Dad's memorial at Hosoi Garden Memorial. Because of the Tier 2 restrictions there was a maximum of 10 people that could physically be present; there were 7 of us. When we first contacted Hosoi, I asked our funeral director Glenn whether we could also have the service be virtually accessible. At that time last year, they were getting ready to do their 1st event in a couple of days; with all the practice since then sharing Dad's service online went very well. It will be available for 90 days after today. (Which I think is April 8, 2021. If you decide to view the service, switch the camera to "podium" view for the best angle on the slide show, which starts at about 3 minutes & runs for about 20 minutes. Curtis gives a great eulogy that starts about 1:09:00 & runs about 10 minutes.)

Flowers from cousins May Chan & Butchie.

Flowers from Maunalani Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

After the service at Hosoi, Dad was interned at Puowaina aka The National Cemetery of the Pacific aka Punchbowl. Again, there was a limit on in-person attendees to the military funeral honor ceremony; there was no virtual option. There were even fewer of us there, but Shirley & Guy met up with us at Court 13 where Dad was interned with Mom; Shirley's father is interned nearby. Shirley's father was Dad's roommate at Maunalani for about a year.

Because there was a very strict limit on the number of people that could attend the memorial at Hosoi in person, I am including about a quarter of the photos that were in the video here. (I think access to the video expires on April 8, 2021.)

On the way back home we stopped by Maunalani and dropped off 2 of the 3 floral arrangements for the residents to enjoy. While there we saw CNA Sam and Czar. Sam spent a lot of time working with Dad during the daily events for the residents.

We also stopped at Otto Cake to pick up some cheesecake; Otto Cake is basically at the foot of the hill Maunalani is on and definitely on the way home from Maunalani. We got a Peanut Butter Cheesecake Brownie & a Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownie plus 1 piece of cheesecake each of the Salted Caramel, Mocha, & Kona Macadamia Nut.
