New Cases for the New Year

We were greeted by kagami mochi display at OmniTrak when we showed up for work today. I learned today from Dave that we are now the only team doing the first calls; we are also working 7 days a week.

In the news yesterday they showed 241 cases for the state, 190 of the cases are on Oʻahu and there were136 from the day before; calls for those would normally have been done yesterday but it was a holiday so no one was calling. So we had 226 cases to get through today when we started work at 9 this morning. Later in the afternoon, after we finished all the Oʻahu cases, we were waiting to see if we would need to help make calls for Maui County, they had 28 reported yesterday and 26 the day before; but it appeared they had it under control so we were sent home around 3 pm.

I made the final curly kale proothie this morning. As I was finished blending it I heard a noise in the cat run; it was Luna scrambling up the supports by the gate. She was standing on the 2" x4" over the top of the gate.

The weather looked pretty good when I got in the car.

Sixty-six minutes after sunrise.

Downtown closes up on the weekends; Umeke Market and the other eating places at Bishop Center were closed. I had parked in their parking structure and walked through the deserted concourse on my way to the OmniTrak office.

The Level Two sign is the same color as my car!

Another Twilight Zone moment.

I ended up eating a Bison Bar for lunch while I sat at a table on the 2nd floor lanaʻi and watched the Manu-o-Kū

After work I gave Yoshi a ride home; she lives on St. Louis Heights so it was relatively close. It took me about 7 minutes to get home after dropping her off. I offered her a ride tomorrow but she said she would take the bus.

The Aix weather app forecast showed some precipitation in the morning but not enough to measure; as I drove to work it there were scattered clouds but no precip. In Kapaʻau the Tesla app showed precipitation that seemed to match the Aix forecast of steady precipitation throughout the day. Everett looked like it was raining all day!

Looking towards the mountains at the clouds.

There was an earthquake 30 miles off of Monterey, California about 7 miles below the surface; no tsunami was generated.

There were 171 new cases of COVID-19 reported today, bringing the total known cases up to 21,807. There no new deaths reported so the death toll remains at 289; currently 1736 cases are considered to be active. There were 92 new cases for Oʻahu and 47 for Maui so it looks like we will be busy tomorrow; it will be our first day working on Sunday. The 7-day new case average for Oʻahu is 94 with a 4.1% positivity rate. Because of the holiday as well as the weekend not many of the graphics were updated; here are the ones that were.

Hauʻoli lā Hānau e Ummihan & Bard!
