We met Janice at Bamboo Garden for lunch. When we pulled in to the parking lot there were no other cars there; we figured they must do more of their business at dinner. We walked in and were told they were not open for another 30 minutes! No wonder no one was in the parking lot! Janice arrived a few minutes later; the manager was really nice and let us wait at the booth instead of standing outside in the drizzle. We started out with Crispy Fried Taro Root Patties; later Janice ordered the Chili and Pepper Fried Bean Curd, Kai ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork, and I ordered the Mongolian Beef and an order of Shanghai Style Rice Pasta. All the dishes are vegetarian and made with vegetable-based meat substitutes. For dessert we tried the Hot Almond Pudding and the Hot Peanut & Pecan Pudding; if you go here make sure you are clear on what size pudding you want! We thought we would be getting the "small" size because only 1 person was ordering each item, but since there were 3 people sitting at the table they brought 2 "large" orders. We came back with a lot of leftovers.

While we were waiting, I got an e-mail from Terri. When we had dinner with her on Thursday night Kai asked her about a bird call he had recorded; he sent her a copy of the audio file he had recorded. She responded and said it was a Northern Bobwhite and included a link to a site that had a call of one; Kai listened to it and said, "That's it!"
If you have spent some time reading this blog, you know I take photos in the bathroom. Not all the time, just when there is something I find interesting. Like in the bathroom at Bamboo Garden. There are 2 stalls in the women's bathroom and 3 sinks; one of them is in one of the stalls. But there are no paper towels or machines to help dry your hands; so why put one in the stall?

After lunch we went to the Museum of Popular Culture; it was very helpful and aided Kai in figuring out where he needed to start my education on pop culture! There was a display regarding monster movies that talked about the different types and listed several example movies. Of the movies listed I had seen about 10% of them and it appeared that I had seen things up through the mid-70's then apparently went in to hibernation! Kai has now decided, besides
Die Hard movie night, we also need to do a zombie movie night and an aliens movie night; there may be others.

This is the 1st elevator I have seen that has a "You Are Here" indicator. |

I asked Kai if this was the creature in "Independence Day." Now we're going to have Alien movie night. |
|
We're also going to have zombie movie night. |
|
Have not seen any of these movies. |
|
I saw Creature From the Black Lagoon; I wonder if that's why I like wetlands? |

I saw this one. |
And here's a photo of the toilet at MoPoP; its a water conservation toilet.
We also did a quick tour of the Pacific Science Center before we headed to the Imax theater to see,
Back From the Brink, a movie about 3 conservation enhancement success stories. After the movie we walked through the Butterfly House before we headed out to the Diversity Diner. Almost forgot to mention that parking was $26 for the 3+ hours that we were there for; its a good thing I could use my Hawaiian Airmiles credit card and get some points!

I got more bathroom photos because the Pacific Science Center has got a really cool bathroom! It's a very educational bathroom.
The topic for the Diversity Diner tonight was Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We started out the Diner by listening to a song by Nina Simone before the meal; I was negligent in getting photos before we started. Later we listened to one of Dr. King's speeches and talked about how it seems intolerance is cropping up again. Then we had dessert; I was better at getting photos of dessert.

The Diner always has great desserts; tonight was no exception.
When we left the house this morning it was raining again. I have not taken Bear for a walk because of the wet weather. Since he has long hair he brings a lot of stuff back in the house when it is wet.

I had started out the morning with a massage by Lorena. But I forgot to take a photo. It was a great massage! I am glad I decided to treat myself whenever I am here by going to see Lorena for a massage!
I forgot to mention on Thursday that Kai's vest arrived! This is the vest we ordered on Tuesday, 2 days earlier! The info I received when I ordered it was that it would arrive next Monday.
The FEMA Winter Storm Watch now says 1 to 2 inches of snow are likely tomorrow with the possibility of 3 to 5 inches. And both of the towns we are planning on meeting friends in are listed in their announcement under "Where". Glad we have the Outback here now! The Loyale would do fine in getting around but the Outback is safer if someone else hits us!
Hauʻoli lā Hānau to Maxine! And
Hauʻoli lā Hoʻomanaʻo #40 to Howard & Erin!
Enjoyed your visit, thank Kai for his educational sharing at MoPop and through the day!
